First Sunday of Advent
Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, since he who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:23
Isaiah is a poetic masterpiece that paints a picture hope in the midst of doom, light in the presence of darkness. The name Isaiah has been referred to as "the prince of prophets" and his name means the LORD is salvation. The book of Isaiah has been consider the "5th gospel" and is referenced over sixty times in the New Testament.
Isaiah introduces us to the term Immanuel: God with us, informing the generations to come that the arrival of the messiah is imminent, that hope is on the way.
Isaiah 9:2,6-7 The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; a light has dawned on those living in the land of darkness. [6] For a child will be born for us, a son will be given to us, and the government will be on his shoulders. He will be named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. [7] The dominion will be vast, and its prosperity will never end. He will reign on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish and sustain it with justice and righteousness from now on and forever.
